Lake Travis Powers Past Round Rock in Bi-District Blowout
Lake Travis delivered a commanding performance in their Class 6A Division I bi-district playoff opener, cruising to a 41-14 victory over Round Rock on Friday night at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex. Fueled by a dominant defense and an electric showing from wide receiver Josiah Thomas, the Cavaliers extended their season to the area round with authority.
Offensive Fireworks After a Tight Start
The game began as a back-and-forth battle, with both teams locked at 7-7 in the first quarter. But Lake Travis erupted in the second, sparked by a 66-yard catch-and-run touchdown from Thomas that broke the deadlock. That play ignited a 31-point surge, which included a 55-yard pick-six by defensive back Aiden Archer just before halftime. By the break, Lake Travis had secured a commanding 24-7 lead and never looked back.
Quarterback Chaston Ditta was the centerpiece of the Cavaliers’ offensive machine, throwing for 300 yards and three touchdowns while adding another score on the ground. His connection with Thomas proved unstoppable, as the senior wideout hauled in 10 receptions for 219 yards and all three of Ditta’s touchdown passes.
Defense Stifles Round Rock
Lake Travis’ defense was relentless, holding Round Rock to a mere 78 yards of total offense. Aside from a late 36-yard touchdown pass on the Dragons’ final offensive play, the Cavaliers gave up virtually nothing. Defensive standout Gus Cordova wreaked havoc with three sacks and two pass deflections, while Aiden Archer’s interception-turned-touchdown was a highlight in a dominant showing.
The Dragons struggled to find any rhythm, managing just one play of more than 10 yards before their final drive.
Areas for Improvement
Despite the convincing win, Lake Travis left room for refinement. The Cavaliers committed 11 penalties and turned the ball over twice, including a muffed punt that set up Round Rock’s first touchdown. Head coach Hank Carter acknowledged the need to clean up mistakes as they prepare for the tougher challenges ahead.
Final Thoughts
Lake Travis showcased their ability to dominate on both sides of the ball, with Josiah Thomas’ stellar performance and a smothering defensive effort leading the charge. As they gear up for the next round, the Cavaliers will look to build on this momentum while fine-tuning the details that could make the difference in their championship aspirations.
