Lone Star Overpowers Highland Park, Marches Into State Semifinals With Offensive Explosion
FRISCO — A year after Highland Park ended Lone Star’s season, the Rangers stepped back onto the same stage Friday night and flipped the script with authority. Behind a video-game stat line from quarterback Trey Wright III and a defense that delivered clutch stops, Lone Star powered past the Scots 58 to 38 at the Ford Center in a rematch that never felt out of their control.
This time, revenge came with fireworks.
Rangers Unleash an Offensive Storm
Lone Star’s attack came out blazing and never cooled. The Rangers stacked up a staggering 738 yards of offense while scoring nearly every time they touched the ball. Wright orchestrated the show with one of the most dominant postseason performances in Texas this year, throwing for 477 yards and three touchdowns while slicing Highland Park for another 176 yards on the ground.
His receiving corps turned the field into a track meet.
Davian Groce hauled in eight passes for 146 yards.
Zach Forbish posted 183 yards on seven grabs.
Logan Brown added a score of his own.
When Lone Star needed power instead of speed, they leaned on running back Karece Hoyt, who bashed his way into the end zone four times.
Momentum Turns Before the Break
Highland Park kept pace early, trading blows behind its own high-octane offense. But the Rangers seized control late in the second quarter when Bryant Robinson jumped a tipped pass for an interception, setting up a short scoring drive that put Lone Star ahead 27 to 17 at halftime.
That takeaway marked the swing the Rangers had been searching for.
Defense Closes the Door
Even with the Scots trying to claw back into the contest, Lone Star’s defense tightened when it mattered. A critical fourth-down stop in the third quarter halted a Highland Park rally, and a third interception in the fourth quarter erased any hope of a late push.
Every time Highland Park threatened, Lone Star had an answer — either with a defensive stand or another lightning strike from Wright and the offense.
Next Up: A Heavyweight Collision
With the win, Lone Star improves to 14 and 0 and books a spot in the Class 5A Division I state semifinals, where powerhouse Aledo awaits. It will be a showdown between a storied 12 time state champion and a Lone Star team chasing the program’s first title.
Final: Lone Star 58, Highland Park 38
Two wins now stand between the Rangers and the history they’ve been chasing for years. Friday night showed they’re built for the moment.
