North Crowley Survives Lancaster Scare in Weather-Delayed Thriller
FORT WORTH – It wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t pretty, but the defending 6A state champions found a way to survive. After a lengthy weather delay and a relentless Lancaster challenge, North Crowley clawed its way to a 22-18 victory Friday night in a game that lived up to its prime-time billing.
The opening quarter was all defense, with both teams trading punts and big stops. The deadlock broke midway through the second frame when Lancaster pieced together a 77-yard march capped by a touchdown to seize early momentum.
North Crowley wasted little time responding. Quarterback Hayes Cloutier dropped a 51-yard strike into the hands of Hayden Green, and Demorey Beasley added a two-point conversion to briefly put the Panthers ahead. Lancaster answered before halftime, grinding 85 yards before drilling a 35-yard field goal to take a 10-8 lead into the break.
The Panthers opened the third quarter with a statement drive—15 plays, 72 yards, and a finishing touch from Cloutier to Damarion Mays for the go-ahead score. But the Tigers weren’t done. Running back Joseph Hairston powered across the goal line after a nine-play series, flipping the scoreboard back in Lancaster’s favor at 18-15.
The decisive blow came in the fourth. Cloutier, calm under pressure, found Bryce Demerson streaking deep for a 49-yard touchdown. The Panther defense, helped by several injury stoppages that slowed Lancaster’s tempo, tightened the clamps from there.
As the final seconds drained away, North Crowley’s 22-18 lead held firm—a hard-earned win that reminded everyone the defending champs still know how to finish when it matters most.
