Kilgore Stays Hot, Hands Lindale Its First Loss in 49-29 Showdown Win
LINDALE, Texas – The Kilgore Bulldogs proved once again why they’re one of East Texas’ toughest teams, overpowering the previously unbeaten Lindale Eagles 49-29 on Friday night in the Game of the Week. The win marks seven straight victories for Kilgore, who continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch of district play.
Quarterback Kayson Brooks was nothing short of spectacular, commanding the Bulldogs’ offense with precision and power. The senior accounted for six total touchdowns, torching the Eagles through the air and on the ground. Brooks completed 19 of 29 passes for 334 yards and four scores, while also rushing for 33 yards and two touchdowns.
Brooks spread the wealth among his receivers, showing off the depth of Kilgore’s offensive arsenal. Ja’Kalen Sheffield led the way with seven receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown, while LaKeylon Graves added 101 yards and a score on just four catches. Tyler Johnigan and Dre Sanders each found the end zone as well, combining for three more TD grabs. On the ground, Rayshaun Williams powered through for 116 yards on 20 carries, giving the Bulldogs a perfect balance between air and ground attack.
Lindale fought valiantly behind quarterback David Lindig, who threw for 256 yards and two touchdowns. His top highlight came on a 51-yard strike to Brodee Copeland in the second quarter that gave the home crowd a brief spark. On the ground, Hank Thurman carried much of the load, rushing for 101 yards and two scores.
Kilgore jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Brooks opened the scoring with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Sanders, then found the end zone twice with his legs before halftime to push the Bulldogs ahead 21-9 at the break. From there, Kilgore’s offense stayed relentless, putting the game out of reach in the second half.
With the win, Kilgore improves to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in district play, looking every bit like a team built for another deep postseason run. The Bulldogs will return home to host Palestine on Oct. 24.
For Lindale (6-1, 2-1 district), it’s a tough loss but far from a season-ender. The Eagles will look to bounce back when they hit the road to face Mabank on Oct. 24.
The message from Kilgore was clear under the Friday night lights this Bulldogs team isn’t just winning, they’re rolling.
