Carthage Bulldogs Overpower Krum Bobcats in Playoff Rout
The Carthage Bulldogs showcased their championship pedigree in a dominant 56-13 victory over the Krum Bobcats in Thursday’s 4A Division II area-round playoff game. Carthage’s offensive firepower, led by standout performances from KJ Edwards and Jett Surratt, proved too much for Krum, whose season ended despite a valiant effort.
Bulldogs Flex Offensive Muscle
Carthage wasted no time asserting their dominance, racing to a 49-0 lead by halftime at Coach Kenny Deel Stadium. Junior running back KJ Edwards delivered a performance worthy of his four-star recruit status, racking up 213 all-purpose yards in just one half. Edwards tallied four rushing touchdowns, including highlight-reel runs of 52 and 75 yards, and added a 64-yard reception.
Quarterback Jett Surratt was equally impressive, throwing for 255 yards and three touchdowns. His top target, wide receiver Junior Henderson, caught seven passes for 96 yards and all three of Surratt’s scoring throws. This offensive trio spearheaded a Bulldogs attack that has averaged 53.7 points per game during their current 11-game winning streak.
A Historic Season for Krum
While the Bobcats fell short, their 9-3 season marked significant progress for the program. Krum reached the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2016, highlighted by a Round 1 victory over Quinlan Ford. Senior quarterback Ty Taber and junior wide receiver Lane Larson connected for both of Krum’s touchdowns in the third quarter, including a 50-yard strike that showcased Larson’s big-play ability. Larson finished with 84 receiving yards and both of Krum’s scores.
Coach Chuck Caniford expressed pride in his team’s achievements, noting their steady rise over the last three seasons. “This group made history and laid the groundwork for the program’s continued growth,” he remarked.
Carthage Eyes Another Championship
Carthage’s latest victory reflects their storied legacy, which includes nine state championships in the past 15 years. With their record now 11-1, the Bulldogs remain a top contender for another title. They will face Pleasant Grove in the regional semifinal, where they aim to keep their postseason momentum rolling.
