Walnut Grove ran into a heavyweight on Friday night, and this time the Wildcats could not punch their way out of trouble. In a high-octane playoff shootout, Argyle controlled the night and sent Walnut Grove home with a 59 to 42 defeat, repeating its success from last year’s postseason meeting.
Newton Shines, Even in Defeat
Walnut Grove’s offense came prepared for a track meet. Cameron Newton turned in another monster effort, ripping off one hundred eighty four rushing yards and three touchdowns while averaging more than seven yards a carry. It marked the fourteenth straight game in which he scored at least twice on the ground, an astonishing streak by any measure.
Quarterback Hayes Hackney kept the Wildcats firing as well, delivering three hundred four passing yards and two touchdowns to keep pace in a game that felt like points might never slow down.
Argyle’s Firepower Too Much
But Argyle simply packed more ammunition. Maguire Gasperson delivered another brilliant performance, lighting up the Wildcats for three hundred thirty nine passing yards and four touchdowns while adding a rushing score for good measure. His efficiency and command never wavered, and he leaned heavily on standout receiver Julian Caldwell, who found the end zone twice.
Argyle’s attack kept rolling through all four quarters, and Walnut Grove’s defense never found a way to cool it off.
Two Teams, One Surging Forward
The loss ends Walnut Grove’s unbeaten season at twelve and one, a tough close for a team that had looked nearly untouchable all year.
Argyle, now twelve and one themselves and riding a twelve game winning streak, advances with confidence into the next round. The Eagles will meet Melissa on Friday at seven o’clock in a matchup loaded with offensive star talent and postseason expectations.
