Ryan Outlasts Richland, Extends Road Streak in 30–21 Battle
DENTON – The Ryan Raiders hit the road again Friday night and once more came away with a win, this time grinding out a 30-21 victory over Richland to extend their road streak to three straight.
The loss halted the Royals’ four-game run and dropped them to 5-2, but the scoreboard doesn’t tell the full story Richland went toe-to-toe with one of the state’s top-ranked programs before finally running out of steam in the fourth quarter.
Gibson Keeps Rolling
Even in defeat, Jayshon Gibson made sure everyone in the stadium remembered his name.
The senior running back was electric again, ripping off 212 rushing yards and three touchdowns his fifth consecutive game topping the 160-yard mark. When Richland needed a spark, Gibson was the one lighting the fuse.
Brett Kates added 100 yards on the ground, giving the Royals a powerful one-two punch that kept Ryan’s defense honest all night.
Raiders Ride Senior Connection
Ryan’s veterans handled the rest.
Quarterback Quin Henigan delivered a steady hand through the air, throwing for 204 yards and three touchdowns, each one hauled in by senior wideout Raymond Smith, who finished with 85 yards and three scores.
On the ground, Rontavian Brown added 104 rushing yards, giving the Raiders balance on offense and control of the tempo down the stretch.
Defensive Edge Makes the Difference
While both teams traded big plays early, Ryan’s defense clamped down when it mattered most continuing a dominant trend that’s defined their road stretch. The Raiders have allowed just 11 points per game away from home during their current streak, a mark that keeps them near the top of 5A competition.
Looking Ahead
Ryan (5-1) returns home Friday night to host Azle, looking to keep their momentum rolling in front of the home crowd.
Richland, meanwhile, gets a brief break before facing Aledo on Oct. 24 a daunting matchup against a Bearcats defense allowing fewer than eight points per game. The Royals’ backfield will once again be called upon to carry the load.
