The South Oak Cliff Bears delivered another dominant performance on Friday night, defeating the Marshall Mavericks 35-7 in a one-sided playoff showdown. With the victory, the Bears extended their winning streak to 11 games and further cemented their reputation as a powerhouse in Texas high school football.
Ground Game Leads the Charge
South Oak Cliff’s offensive attack was fueled by an unstoppable ground game that piled up 264 rushing yards. Senior running back Mikail Trotter showcased his talent with 118 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 14 carries. Complementing Trotter was Levon Morton, who added 22 yards and two more scores, giving the Bears a balanced and efficient attack.
This rushing dominance has become a hallmark of South Oak Cliff’s playstyle. Friday’s performance marked the fourth consecutive game in which the Bears rushed for over 230 yards, underlining their offensive consistency.
Stifling Defense Shines
While the offense powered through Marshall’s defense, South Oak Cliff’s defensive unit was equally impressive. The Bears suffocated the Mavericks’ offense, limiting them to just seven points and putting an end to their six-game winning streak. Throughout the season, South Oak Cliff’s defense has been a nightmare for opposing teams, allowing an average of just 11.6 points per game.
A Road-Warrior Mentality
Friday’s win was the sixth consecutive road victory for the Bears, highlighting their ability to perform under pressure no matter the location. Over this stretch, South Oak Cliff has dominated opponents, winning by an average margin of 37.8 points per game.
For Marshall, the loss brought their season to an end with a 10-3 record. Despite the defeat, the Mavericks’ season was a success, marked by resilience and a six-game winning streak that showcased their growth as a team.
Next Up: Port Neches-Groves
With their record now at 11-2, South Oak Cliff looks ahead to a matchup against Port Neches-Groves in the next round of the playoffs. The game is set for 7:00 p.m. on Friday and promises to be a test for both squads. South Oak Cliff’s relentless defense will aim to stymie a Port Neches-Groves offense that must rise to the challenge.
As the Bears continue their playoff journey, their potent rushing attack and impenetrable defense make them one of the most formidable teams in the state.
