The Aledo Bearcats continued their dominance on Friday night, overcoming a 27-14 halftime deficit to defeat the Denton Ryan Raiders 42-27. Aledo’s thrilling comeback extended their historic district winning streak to 123 games, a run that began in 2007 and has seen the Bearcats claim 11 state championships.
Denton Ryan came out strong, capitalizing on early opportunities and exploiting Aledo’s defensive lapses. The Raiders built a 27-14 lead by halftime, fueled by a series of big plays. Early in the first quarter, defensive lineman Uzziah Warmate, used in a size package on offense, broke free for a surprising 53-yard touchdown run with Aledo’s secondary playing up.
After Aledo’s Gavin Beard threw a red zone interception, the Bearcats’ defense responded with a safety, giving them momentum. However, Ryan’s offense quickly extended their lead with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Quin Henigan to running back Tre’Vaughn Reynolds.
Wide receiver Braeden Musset added two more explosive plays for Ryan, first with a 58-yard touchdown pass to Lorenzo Hill after receiving a backward pass, and then catching a 59-yard bomb to make it 27-7 late in the second quarter. Aledo’s special teams salvaged some momentum before halftime when cornerback Adrian Fuller returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, narrowing the score to 27-14, though the extra point was missed.
The second half saw a completely different Aledo team. The Bearcats’ defense stepped up, and their offense found its rhythm. Aledo’s quarterback, Gavin Beard, connected with Kaydon Finley on an 11-yard slant to make it a one-possession game, 27-21. Raycine Guillory Jr. then delivered for Aledo, breaking off a 41-yard rush to set up his six-yard touchdown run, giving the Bearcats their first lead of the night at 28-27.
Aledo’s defense continued to pressure Ryan, forcing a fumble that linebacker Chase Wilburn recovered deep in Raider territory. Guillory added another touchdown from three yards out, extending Aledo’s lead to 35-27.
Ryan’s attempt to respond was stifled by the Bearcat defense, and another interception by Owen Henderson set up Aledo’s final score. Guillory, who rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns, capped off his night by taking a shovel pass 29 yards for a touchdown. A late interception by Kamron Hall sealed Aledo’s 42-27 win.
Aledo’s remarkable comeback victory not only improved their record to 5-1 but also extended their district win streak to 123 games, a streak that has spanned over 17 years. During this period, Aledo has achieved a staggering 241-17 overall record and won 11 state championships, cementing their place as one of the premier high school football programs in the nation.
Ryan, now 4-1, will look to regroup after their first loss of the season. Meanwhile, Aledo will attempt to extend their streak to 124 games when they face Granbury on October 11.
Despite Denton Ryan’s hot start, the Bearcats proved once again they thrive under pressure, making a powerful statement about their resilience and dominance. Raycine Guillory Jr.’s stellar performance, combined with key defensive plays, solidified Aledo’s status as a powerhouse.
