Ryan Raiders Rally Past Aledo to Secure Regional Title
The Denton Ryan Raiders triumphed over the Aledo Bearcats with a 31-21 victory in the 5A Division I Region I championship, securing a spot in the state semifinals. Despite trailing by 11 points in the second half, Ryan’s balanced offense and relentless defense turned the tide, marking their 11th consecutive home win.
Nehemiah Warmate led Ryan’s explosive rushing attack, racking up 144 yards and two touchdowns at an impressive 7.6 yards per carry. Tre’Vaughn Reynolds also delivered a standout performance with 178 all-purpose yards and a touchdown. Ryan amassed 237 rushing yards in total, their highest since November 2023.
Ryan’s defense made its presence felt with four sacks, three courtesy of Kharom Freeman-Wade, setting a career high. Uzziah Warmate added a sack and seven tackles, three for a loss. Late-game interceptions by Trae Williams and Byran Simmons thwarted Aledo’s comeback attempts, solidifying Ryan’s control.
Aledo showed resilience with scores from Blake Burdine, Gavin Beard, and Raycine Guillory Jr., but their streak of five away wins ended against Ryan’s formidable defense and clutch plays.
Now 13-1 on the season, Ryan will face Highland Park in the state semifinals. The matchup promises excitement, as Highland Park has scored 31 or more points in its last 12 games. Ryan will need both their dynamic offense and stifling defense to keep their championship hopes alive.
