In a thrilling showdown between two highly-ranked teams, the Texas Tigers edged out the Fayetteville Bulldogs in a nail-biter, winning 55-54 on Friday. The victory keeps Texas undefeated this season, extending their winning streak to 4-0, while also marking their eighth consecutive road win dating back to last season. Meanwhile, Fayetteville’s impressive 15-game winning streak came to an end, dropping them to 2-1.
The Tigers’ success was fueled by a balanced offensive attack, with quarterback David Potter leading the charge. Potter delivered an outstanding performance, throwing for 414 yards and four touchdowns while averaging an impressive 12.9 yards per attempt. He also contributed on the ground with 38 rushing yards and an additional touchdown. Potter’s stellar play continues to shine this season, as he’s now averaging 327.8 passing yards per game. Running back Tradarian Ball also played a crucial role, racking up 191 total yards and two touchdowns.
Texas’s defense made key contributions, particularly in the secondary, with interceptions from Kameron Wrightner and Roman A. Wyatt. Isaiah Dowden anchored the defensive effort, recording 11 total tackles, including two tackles for loss.
The Tigers’ dominance on the ground was another decisive factor, as they amassed 206 rushing yards, marking the fourth consecutive game in which they’ve rushed for over 200 yards.
With this narrow victory, Texas further solidifies its ranking as one of the top teams in the state, while Fayetteville faces their first setback after an impressive run last season.
