Celina Hands Panther Creek First Loss in Shootout, 35-28
FRISCO – Just one week after steamrolling Kennedale 56-17, Panther Creek’s hot start to the season hit its first speed bump. The Panthers, who had been priding themselves on defense, gave up a season-high in points Friday night, falling 35-28 to Celina in a battle of unbeatens.
It was an uncharacteristic showing for a Panther Creek defense that had been giving up just 13 points per game. Celina (5-0) found cracks, and the Bobcats took advantage.
Webb Does It All
Even in defeat, senior playmaker Donovan Webb put on a show. On offense, he carried the load with 152 rushing yards and a touchdown, averaging nearly 10 yards per carry. On defense, he was just as disruptive, forcing a fumble and racking up 12 tackles.
Quarterback Parker Ord provided the spark through the air, hooking up for 55 yards and two touchdowns, keeping Panther Creek in striking distance.
Defensive Highlights
Though the Panthers bent, they didn’t break quietly. Linebacker Cayden Green was everywhere, snagging two interceptions and playing the role of defensive playmaker all night. Meanwhile, Elyon White matched Webb with 12 tackles, anchoring the middle of the defense.
Still, the Bobcats’ offensive rhythm proved too much down the stretch, sealing Panther Creek’s first blemish of the season.
Looking Ahead
The loss drops Panther Creek to 4-1, while Celina stays perfect at 5-0.
Next up: the Panthers return home Friday to host Paris, a team riding a three-game win streak. Expect a physical clash under the lights. Celina, meanwhile, travels to face Aubrey, a squad giving up more than 34 points per game a matchup that could spell another offensive showcase for the Bobcats.
