Lake Travis Edges Rockwall 45-42 in Thrilling Comeback Victory
Despite a fierce rally from the Rockwall Yellowjackets, who overcame a 38-28 third-quarter deficit to briefly take a 42-38 lead late in the game, the Lake Travis Cavaliers emerged victorious, 45-42, in a thrilling matchup Friday night at Cavalier Stadium.
The win was sweet revenge for Lake Travis, avenging their 59-35 loss to Rockwall in 2021.
Rockwall started strong, jumping to a 17-7 lead in the first quarter behind quarterback Landyn Locke, who completed seven consecutive passes, including a 29-yard touchdown to Triston Gooch. However, Rockwall’s momentum took a hit when Locke was sidelined with a knee injury, forcing him to leave the game early after racking up 220 passing yards and two touchdowns.
Rockwall backup QB Brent Ricker stepped up, leading two scoring drives. With 18 seconds left in the game, Rockwall had a chance to tie or win. They managed to move the ball to Lake Travis’ 51-yard line, but their last-second field goal attempt fell short.
The Cavaliers’ game-winning moment came on an 85-yard drive, capped off by quarterback Chaston Ditta’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Colby with just 35 seconds left on the clock.
Rockwall’s rushing attack remained potent, tallying 222 yards on the ground, with senior Jamir Wilson was a standout, rushing for 138 yards and a touchdown. In addition to Locke’s 220 passing yards and two touchdowns, Triston Gooch added 108 receiving yards and a touchdown.
For Lake Travis, Ditta was the star of the night, throwing for 361 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding a rushing score. His performance set a new career high in total yards. Running back Vann Hopping also contributed with 146 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Lake Travis improved to 2-0 with the victory, while Rockwall fell to 1-1 after the narrow defeat.
