Anderson Outlasts A&M Consolidated in Five-OT Thriller, Grabs Control of District 12-5A
COLLEGE STATION – The lights at Tigerland Stadium burned late Friday night, and so did Anderson’s grit. After five exhausting overtimes, the Trojans emerged with a 42-40 statement win over No. 8 A&M Consolidated – a victory that instantly stamped them as the team to beat in District 12-5A Division I.
Overtime Madness
Regulation ended knotted at 21. From there, the game turned into a tug-of-war that wouldn’t end until nearly midnight.
The teams traded blows through four overtimes, answering every touchdown with another. Starting in the third OT, per UIL rules, the drama hinged on 2-point plays from the 3-yard line.
Anderson was flawless. Four tries. Four conversions.
The decisive moment came in the fifth overtime. After Anderson punched in its score and added the conversion, A&M Consolidated faced fourth down with the game on the line. The Tiger quarterback tucked it to run, but the wall of Datrien Campbell, Max Middleton, Pierce Miller, and Yaheim Riley closed fast. They cut him down short of the end zone, sealing one of the biggest wins in Anderson’s modern history.
Crenshaw Powers the Ground Game
The Trojans leaned on the run all night and their bell cow delivered. Senior Caleb Crenshaw rumbled for 206 yards and three touchdowns, repeatedly churning out tough yards between the tackles.
Darbyshire chipped in a rushing score, while Jay Fullmer provided 103 yards from scrimmage to keep the chains moving. Altogether, Anderson piled up 319 yards on the ground, dictating the tone against one of the state’s top-ranked defenses.
Setting the Pace in District
The win lifts Anderson to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in district, the last unbeaten standing in 12-5A. Not since 2010 when the Trojans went 10-2 and shared the district crown with Westlake and Bowie has the program felt this kind of surge.
With Friday’s performance, the Trojans didn’t just escape with a win. They sent a message loud and clear: the road to the district title now runs through Anderson.
