In a dominant District 26-6A showdown, the Lake Travis Cavaliers reminded everyone of their strength, cruising to a 44-6 victory over the previously unbeaten Bowie Bulldogs on Friday night at Burger Stadium. The win keeps Lake Travis undefeated at 5-0 (1-0 in district play), while Bowie suffered its first loss, dropping to 4-1 (0-1).
Offensive Powerhouse:
Lake Travis showcased an impressive offensive display, led by running back Vann Hopping and quarterback Chaston Ditta. Hopping rushed for 118 yards on 16 carries, marking his fourth game this season with over 100 yards, and found the end zone three times. Quarterback Chaston Ditta was equally impressive, throwing for 303 yards and three touchdowns, all caught by wide receiver Lark Sidle. Sidle, who caught five passes for 58 yards, continued his productive partnership with Ditta, building on their standout performances from last year against Bowie.
Defensive Dominance:
The Cavaliers’ defense played a crucial role in their victory, holding Bowie to just 54 rushing yards, their lowest output on the ground this season, and limiting them to 228 total yards. Defensive end Gus Cordova was a game-changer, tipping a pass in the second quarter that led to an interception by Lawson Watkins, setting up Hopping’s second touchdown of the night. Cordova, a USC commit, also blocked a 25-yard field goal attempt just before halftime and then blocked the extra point following Bowie’s lone touchdown in the third quarter, further emphasizing Lake Travis’ defensive dominance.
Key Highlights:
- Lake Travis scored on its first two drives, quickly establishing control while forcing Bowie into two early punts.
- Despite some missed opportunities in the second quarter, including two failed field goals and a missed extra point, the Cavaliers never relinquished their lead.
- The Cavaliers’ offense and defense worked in tandem, as they held Bowie to minimal yardage and took advantage of every opportunity to extend their lead.
Moving Forward:
With this win, the Cavaliers solidify their position as one of the top teams in the district. They head into a bye week, allowing key players such as WR Dylan Cullers, DE Carter Buck, DB Michael Griffin, DB Walker Moore, and DL Daniel Aganbi to recover and prepare for the second half of the season. Meanwhile, Bowie will look to rebound as they face Del Valle next week.
