For Green, this game held a special meaning. “It was a little revenge,” he admitted, having transferred to South Oak Cliff before his junior year. “This one was a little personal to me. But those are still my guys over there.”
South Oak Cliff, a two-time defending state champion, asserted dominance from the middle of the second quarter onward. Coach Jason Todd commended the team’s understanding of what it takes to win at this level, highlighting Green’s exceptional performance and the offensive line’s contributions.
Despite Lancaster’s solid effort, especially from senior running back Kewan Lacy, who rushed for an impressive 208 yards and secured all three Lancaster touchdowns, South Oak Cliff’s prowess was evident. This win put an end to Lancaster’s nine-year undefeated streak against DISD schools, marking a significant victory for South Oak Cliff.
In the first half, South Oak Cliff bounced back twice from a seven-point deficit, eventually securing a 28-14 lead at halftime. Khalill Ewell and Danny Green Jr. led the charge with pivotal touchdowns just before the break.
The second half saw South Oak Cliff’s patience pay off. They controlled the game, running 22 plays compared to Lancaster’s five, showcasing their strategic prowess and determination. Key touchdowns by William Little and Trey Jackson widened the lead, sealing the victory for South Oak Cliff.
