In a thrilling “Battle of the Lakes” rivalry, the Westlake Chaparrals defeated the Lake Travis Cavaliers 28-16 on Friday, securing their fifth consecutive victory in the series. Westlake’s defense played a pivotal role, forcing four turnovers, including three interceptions on Cavaliers quarterback Chaston Ditta, which helped the Chaps hold Lake Travis to a season-low 78 rushing yards.
Westlake set the tone early, with a 77-yard drive capped by a 4-yard touchdown from quarterback Rees Wise. In the second quarter, Wise connected with Cal Livengood for a 25-yard scoring pass, putting Westlake up 14-0. Although Lake Travis fought back with a scoring drive and a touchdown to Carter Buck, each Cavaliers rally was thwarted by costly turnovers and strong defensive stands from the Chaps.
Senior linebacker Elliott Schaper anchored the Westlake defense, notching three sacks and a season-high 16 tackles. The defense further frustrated Lake Travis when Brandon Clark returned an interception 54 yards for a touchdown. Lake Travis managed an 18-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter, but Westlake sealed their victory with an 80-yard punt return touchdown by Livengood, who capitalized on a crucial block from Eli Clark.
The win boosted Westlake to 7-1 on the season and extended their dominance in District 26-6A play, while Lake Travis, now 7-1, suffered their first loss and will look to recover against Akins next week. Meanwhile, Westlake will aim for their sixth straight win as they host Del Valle on November 1, further solidifying their momentum as playoff season approaches.
