
Steele put on a dominating performance, securing a convincing 42-14 victory over Brandeis in the Class 6A Division II bi-district playoff game. The Knights displayed their strength early on, scoring on their first four possessions and showcasing a solid defensive performance that restricted Brandeis to minimal offensive production.
Jonathan Hatton had a stellar game for Steele, scoring three rushing touchdowns, contributing significantly to the team’s commanding lead. The Knights’ offense was potent, with quarterback Chad Warner leading the charge, connecting well with Jalen Cooper for a touchdown among his notable passes.
Though Brandeis managed to score on a 31-yard interception return by Ian Luna late in the first half, Steele maintained their dominance throughout the game, never allowing Brandeis to mount a serious comeback.
Steele’s head coach, David Saenz, acknowledged the team’s strong offensive start but emphasized the need to improve and clean up aspects of their game, especially as the playoffs intensify and competition stiffens.
Warner, Cooper, along with Harris and Hatton, emerged as standout performers for Steele, contributing significantly to the team’s success in this playoff matchup.
Looking ahead, Steele is set to face the winner between Austin Bowie and Round Rock McNeil in the area round. Regardless of the opponent, Steele prepares for the next challenge, eyeing a continued strong run through the playoffs.
