The Argyle Eagles dominated Arlington Seguin in their District 3-5A DII matchup on Friday night, cruising to a 36-7 victory at Eagle Stadium. The win kept Argyle undefeated in district play at 4-0, while Seguin dropped to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in district competition.

The game started off with a pivotal defensive play by Argyle linebacker Max Bland. Just minutes into the first quarter, Bland scooped up a fumble forced by Reno Hermann on Seguin quarterback Chevy Andrews and returned it 43 yards for a touchdown, giving Argyle a 7-0 lead with 9:49 left in the quarter. This early score set the tone for a night where Argyle’s defense and offense both took control.

Seguin quickly responded with an impressive 12-play, 88-yard drive, capped by a 41-yard touchdown pass from Andrews to receiver Malachi Meche, tying the game at 7-7 by the end of the first quarter. However, that would be the only score for the Cougars as Argyle’s defense shut them down for the remainder of the game.

Argyle retook the lead in the second quarter with a 7-yard touchdown run by running back Watson Bell, making it 14-7. Late in the half, after turning the ball over on downs deep in Seguin territory, Argyle’s defense held firm and forced a turnover on downs of their own, regaining possession at the Cougars’ 15-yard line. Kicker Anthony Ruvalcaba then extended the lead to 17-7 with a 32-yard field goal just before halftime.

Despite two interceptions halting drives in the third quarter, Argyle’s offense found its rhythm again when quarterback Gasperson connected with wide receiver Will Krzysiak for a 25-yard touchdown, putting Argyle ahead 24-7 late in the period. In the fourth quarter, a Seguin miscue led to a safety when the Cougars’ punter touched his knee in the end zone after mishandling a snap, increasing Argyle’s lead to 26-7.

The Eagles kept piling on points with Gasperson finding wide receiver Grant Romero for a 23-yard touchdown pass. Ruvalcaba then capped off the scoring with a 20-yard field goal, sealing the 36-7 win for Argyle.

Several Argyle players delivered strong performances, with Krzysiak leading the way with 71 receiving yards and a touchdown, along with 17 rushing yards. Gasperson had two touchdown passes, and Watson Bell added a score on the ground. On defense, Argyle’s ability to create turnovers and capitalize on Seguin’s mistakes was key to their victory.

Seguin’s offense, which had averaged just 14.86 points allowed per game, struggled to find consistency. Andrews finished with 167 passing yards and a touchdown, while Meche hauled in 67 receiving yards and a score. G’Mani Smith contributed 30 rushing yards, but the Cougars couldn’t overcome Argyle’s strong defensive front and timely offense.

The loss snapped Seguin’s seven-game road winning streak dating back to last season, while Argyle extended their home winning streak to eight games, improving to 5-1 overall.

Next week, Argyle will face Mansfield Summit in a crucial district showdown on Friday, Oct. 18, at R.L. Anderson Stadium in Mansfield, with both teams still unbeaten in district play. Summit remains tied for first with Argyle after a narrow 21-20 win over Mansfield Timberview. Meanwhile, Seguin will look to bounce back and remain competitive in the district race.
