Randle Overpowers Boerne, Cruises Into 5A DII State Title Game
McLANE STADIUM – A close game at halftime turned into a rout in a matter of minutes. The Randle Lions erupted for four second-half touchdowns on Friday night, burying Boerne 42-7 in the UIL Class 5A Division II semifinals and staying unbeaten at 15-0.
With the win, Randle earns its first trip to a state championship, where it will meet South Oak Cliff (13-2) on Friday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. inside AT&T Stadium.
Tight First Half
Early on, Boerne made the Lions sweat. Quarterback Hank Hendrix kept a drive alive on 4th-and-17 and delivered a 27-yard strike to Eli Nikolas, tying the game at 7-7 late in the second quarter.
Randle, however, answered before the break. Quarterback Tyler Skrabanek found D’Shawn Burton wide open in the end zone to give the Lions a 14-7 lead at halftime.
Sweeny Sparks the Surge
The second half belonged to Keilan Sweeny. The senior star showcased his versatility with a 4-yard rushing touchdown, later hauled in a 32-yard scoring pass from Skrabanek, and even tossed a touchdown of his own on a trick play to Mason Mixon.
By the end of the third quarter, the Lions had stretched their lead to 35-7, thanks also to a defensive highlight—Sh’Rhod Revis jumping a route for a pick-six.
Closing the Door
Running back Landen Williams-Callis capped the blowout with a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, cementing Randle’s dominant performance.
What’s Next
Randle’s defense smothered Boerne after halftime, holding the Greyhounds scoreless over the final two quarters while the offense poured in points. The Lions, now riding a perfect record, will try to finish the job against South Oak Cliff in Arlington.
Kickoff for the Class 5A Division II championship is set for Friday at 7 p.m. at AT&T Stadium.
