Denney Faith, after a remarkable 37-year journey, can proudly claim the title of a state championship-winning coach. Albany showcased a relentless, physical style of football, ultimately dominating Mart in a convincing 41-21 victory at AT&T Stadium.
In this historic triumph, Faith not only secured his first state title but also established himself atop the all-time wins list among Texas high school football head coaches. For Albany, it marked their third state championship, an achievement not tasted since 1961.
The game began with a back-and-forth exchange of touchdowns between Albany and Mart. However, it was Albany’s decisive push before halftime that set the tone. The Lions secured a 28-14 lead heading into halftime, capitalizing on a crucial 27-yard touchdown run by Adam Hill with just 47 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Mart’s decision to kickoff to Albany for both halves seemed to backfire with this strategic move.
Albany continued to assert dominance in the second half, widening their lead to 34-14 with Coy Lefevre’s 3-yard touchdown early in the third quarter, stifling any chance of a Mart comeback.
Lefevre emerged as the Offensive Player of the Game, contributing 65 rushing yards and an impressive four touchdowns. The Lions showcased their ground prowess, accumulating 311 rushing yards, spearheaded by quarterback Cole Chapman’s 129 yards and Adam Hill’s 105 yards, who also added 71 receiving yards to his stellar performance.
On the defensive end, Wyatt Windham shone as the Defensive Player of the Game, leading Albany’s defense with an astounding 17 tackles, including one for a loss. His contribution played a pivotal role in securing Albany’s resounding victory.
