In the Class 3A Division II championship clash against Poth, Gunter’s commanding performance saw them secure an impressive victory, marked by a strong start and an explosive surge in the third quarter.
The game witnessed Gunter’s early dominance as they accumulated 21 points in the opening half, followed by an additional 14 in the third quarter, resulting in a total of 35 unanswered points. Ashton Bennett emerged as a key contributor during this surge, registering two touchdowns while also showcasing his rushing prowess with 87 yards gained on 13 carries. Adding to the onslaught, Ivy Hellman delivered impactful touchdown runs of 21 and 11 yards, further solidifying Gunter’s dominance.
With an unblemished record of 16-0, Gunter displayed their superiority by amassing an impressive 460 total yards compared to the Pirates’ 243 yards, underscoring their all-around prowess in the game. This substantial yardage gap underscored Gunter’s complete control and efficiency on both offensive and defensive fronts throughout the championship match.
