The Eagles secured their first state title since 2016 in impressive fashion, dominating the game against Vandegrift with a standout performance by Deondra “Tiger” Riden, who rushed for a remarkable 188 yards on 32 carries, scoring three crucial touchdowns.
The game initially saw a tight battle, with a scoreless first quarter setting the stage for a competitive clash. However, this momentary highlight for the Vipers was overshadowed by the Eagles’ explosive response, as they rallied with three touchdowns in the second quarter.
The Eagles’ second quarter surge was instrumental in seizing control of the game. Notably, Texas commit Johntay Cook showcased his prowess with a 42-yard touchdown pass, while Tre Wisner’s 10-yard run and Riden’s 4-yard rush further cemented the Eagles’ dominance by halftime.
DeSoto continued their commanding display in the second half, adding three more touchdowns to their tally. Riden extended his stellar performance with two additional touchdown runs (6 and 7 yards), while Wisner’s impressive 62-yard run further solidified the Eagles’ commanding lead, completing the rout.
Impressively, the Eagles amassed a staggering total of 614 yards, showcasing an average gain of 8.3 yards per play, underscoring their offensive prowess and complete control of the game.
While Vandegrift faced a challenging game, running back Alex Witt emerged as a bright spot for the Vipers, contributing 149 yards and two touchdowns, despite the team falling short against the Eagles’ dominant display.
