In a resounding 69-24 victory against Abbott, Cedric Ware showcased a masterclass in both offense and defense, securing Westbrook’s consecutive Class A Division II state championship. The game concluded prematurely, invoking the 45-point mercy rule with 9:02 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Ware’s performance was nothing short of exceptional. He amassed 142 rushing yards, scoring four touchdowns while adding a 34-yard touchdown reception. Grayson Jeffrey, a vital contributor, complemented Ware’s brilliance with 138 rushing yards and two scores. Jeffrey also displayed versatility, catching two passes for 43 yards and a touchdown, and even completed his sole pass attempt, resulting in a 29-yard touchdown to Colton Walters.
The climax of the game belonged to Ware, as he sealed four of the final six touchdowns. His impact transcended offense, as he spearheaded Westbrook’s defense, tallying eight tackles, one of which was for a loss. This defensive prowess culminated in holding Abbott to a mere 125 total yards.
