Carroll’s dominance was on full display in their recent showdown against Keller, showcasing a remarkable improvement from their close encounter last season. In their latest meeting, Carroll surged ahead to a commanding 35-0 lead by halftime, ultimately claiming a resounding 56-10 victory.
Senior quarterback Graham Knowles orchestrated the offense brilliantly, tallying 237 passing yards and two touchdowns. Davis Penn, the sophomore running back, made a significant impact, rushing for 62 yards and securing three crucial touchdowns.
Despite the sizable lead at halftime, Carroll’s head coach Riley Dodge urged his team to maintain focus and intensity for the remainder of the game. This mindset ensured a continued dominant performance, even as Keller managed to score their solitary touchdown in the final quarter when Carroll had rested several starters.
The win over Keller significantly reduced the number of undefeated teams in District 4-6A to two, with Trophy Club Byron Nelson being the other unbeaten team at 5-0, 2-0 in district play.
Notably, this match marked the season debut of Carroll running back Riley Wormley after a reversal of the initial eligibility ruling that prevented him from participating in varsity athletics this season. His transfer from Colleyville Heritage to Carroll had initially raised concerns, but the UIL state executive committee’s reconsideration allowed him to rejoin the team. Wormley, a junior and a three-star recruit, showcased his talent by contributing 109 rushing yards and a touchdown in Carroll’s triumph.
Coach Dodge praised Wormley’s performance, acknowledging that it was his first game of the season and expressing confidence that Wormley would continue to improve.
Carroll’s upcoming clash against Byron Nelson on October 27 holds significant implications, potentially determining the district championship. Last season, Keller had a close contest against Carroll before losing to Lewisville in the playoffs, while Carroll faced Denton Guyer in the state semifinals. The win over Byron Nelson could further solidify Carroll’s status as the favorite in District 4-6A.
