Dripping Springs faced a tough setback on Friday as their six-game winning streak came to an abrupt end with a 49-21 loss to the undefeated Lake Travis Cavaliers. Despite playing at home, the Tigers couldn’t keep up with Lake Travis, who showcased dominance on both sides of the ball, handing Dripping Springs their first home loss of the season.
The Cavaliers wasted no time establishing control, scoring 21 points within the first 13 minutes of the game. Running back Vann Hopping set the tone early with a 47-yard touchdown run, part of his 138-yard, two-touchdown performance. Quarterback Chaston Ditta added to the offensive fireworks, throwing for 230 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for another 60 yards and two scores on just six carries. Ditta’s effort marked a new career-high for rushing yards, further solidifying his reputation as a dual-threat playmaker.
Lake Travis was unstoppable on the ground, racking up 276 rushing yards—marking their seventh consecutive game with over 150 rushing yards. Their offensive efficiency was matched by a stifling defense that sacked Dripping Springs’ quarterback Maddox Maher five times. Gus “Bus” Cordova led the charge with two sacks, while Merrick Kays made his presence known with 12 tackles, including two for loss, and a sack of his own.
Despite the defeat, Dripping Springs had notable performances from Maddox Maher and Mateo Perez. Maher rushed for 32 yards and a touchdown, while Perez had a career-high 60 rushing yards, including a touchdown. Perez’s breakout run of 60 yards was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise challenging night for the Tigers. Dripping Springs managed 206 rushing yards as a team, continuing their trend of strong ground performances, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with the high-powered Lake Travis offense.
The loss drops Dripping Springs to 6-2 on the season, snapping their six-game winning streak. Meanwhile, Lake Travis remains undefeated at 7-0, continuing their march toward a potential district title and deep playoff run. The Cavaliers’ perfect record includes six victories by more than 21 points, emphasizing their dominance this season. Next week, they face their archrival, Westlake, in what promises to be a highly anticipated clash.
