Argyle showcased its dominance in a pivotal District 3-5A DII showdown against Lake Dallas, securing a commanding 52-21 victory. The win reaffirmed Argyle’s position as a top contender in the district, ending Lake Dallas’ undefeated start to the season for the second consecutive year.
The Eagles’ defense played a pivotal role, containing Lake Dallas’ high-scoring offense well below its average, limiting them to just 169 total yards and forcing crucial turnovers, including a pick-six.
Argyle seized control from the beginning, scoring early through a methodical drive led by senior running back Jake Krekeler, who had a standout performance with three touchdowns and 128 rushing yards. Despite starting quarterback John Gailey exiting the game due to a left leg injury, sophomore Maguire Gasperson seamlessly stepped in, displaying poise and efficiency. Gasperson, primarily a wide receiver, demonstrated versatility by completing 15 of 20 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns, effectively leading the Eagles’ offense.
Coach Todd Rodgers praised Gasperson’s adaptability and maturity in handling the game’s crucial moments, ensuring the team’s offensive momentum continued.
The Eagles’ offensive line’s dominance, coupled with Gasperson’s performance, contributed to a total offensive output of 529 yards, with a strong rushing game amassing 245 yards.
Argyle’s victory sets the stage for an important clash against the 5A DII No. 2-ranked Frisco Emerson, a game that could significantly impact the district championship race. Despite potential adjustments due to injuries, Rodgers emphasized the team’s need to maintain focus and preparation for the upcoming challenge against Frisco Emerson.
