Coppell’s stunning victory over Lewisville, 49-28, marked a significant upset in their district clash, ending Lewisville’s long-standing dominance dating back to 2013. Despite Lewisville’s strong expectations for the season, Coppell, led by the unstoppable passing game spearheaded by junior quarterback Edward Griffin, outplayed the opposition.
Griffin’s exceptional performance included a remarkable 23-for-28 passing for 313 yards and two touchdowns, accompanied by 29 rushing yards and an additional touchdown. His emergence as the team’s leader solidified Coppell’s position as a formidable force within the competitive district.
Notably, Coppell’s offense thrived, amassing a total of 529 yards, with key contributions from running backs Xavier Mosley and O’Marion Mbakwe, who collectively tallied 216 rushing yards. Mosley proved pivotal with 84 yards and two rushing touchdowns alongside three catches for 23 yards and another score.
The defensive prowess of Coppell was equally impressive, securing a 2-0 turnover advantage and stifling Lewisville’s offense throughout the game. The defensive unit limited Lewisville to just one drive without a punt in the first half, asserting dominance and seizing control of the game.
Despite Lewisville’s standout performer, Viron Ellison, Coppell maintained its lead with a robust offensive display, continuing to score through Mosley’s additional touchdowns to secure the commanding win.
As Lewisville looks ahead to the upcoming game against Plano West and the remainder of its district schedule, Coppell, now positioned as a dominant force, is geared to maintain its momentum in pursuit of a district title, eyeing a potential triumph in the face of Flower Mound Marcus in the subsequent week.
While relishing the victory, Coppell’s coach, Antonio Wiley, remains focused on the next challenge, exemplifying the team’s determination to sustain its winning streak and elevate its performance in the season ahead.
