Wakeland Outlasts Frisco in Thriller, Stays Perfect at 8-0
Coming off a dominant 48-17 win over Sherman, the Frisco Raccoons entered Thursday night full of momentum. But in a back-and-forth clash with district rival Wakeland, the Raccoons couldn’t finish the job, falling 35-28 in one of their toughest battles of the season. The loss marked Frisco’s lowest-scoring outing so far this year and dropped them to 4-2 overall.
Frisco quarterback Cobyn Harbert did everything he could to keep his team in it. The dual-threat standout threw for 174 yards and a touchdown, added two rushing scores, and even chipped in on defense with four tackles and a pass breakup. His favorite target, Lowery Asel, made his mark with 85 receiving yards and a touchdown grab that helped the Raccoons stay within striking distance.
Wakeland, however, answered every challenge. Jayden Maples led the charge through the air, slinging 237 yards and three touchdowns, while running back Braxton Cole provided balance with 110 rushing yards and a score of his own. The Wolverine offense proved too efficient to contain, sealing their perfect start at 8-0.
Next up, Frisco returns home to host Lebanon Trail on Thursday at 7 p.m., where fans will get a marquee quarterback showdown between Harbert and Jordan Jones. Meanwhile, Wakeland hits the road to face Lone Star on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m., a dangerous matchup against a Rangers squad that has scored 31 or more points in four straight.
The Wolverines remain undefeated and they’re playing like a team that plans to keep it that way.
