Highland Park entered the postseason looking every bit like the force they had been all fall, and Friday night only strengthened that reputation. The Scots opened their playoff run by overpowering Frisco Wakeland in a 47 to 20 showcase, piling up explosive plays and timely stops in a performance that looked familiar to anyone who has followed their season of double digit victories.
The star of the evening came from the Highland Park receiving corps. Harrison Cullum turned in the best outing of his career, slicing through the Wolverines secondary for 126 yards and a score. Every time the Scots needed a spark, Cullum delivered one.
Highland Park’s defense complemented that firepower with its own statement. The secondary closed off windows all night and came away with interceptions from Ronan Moreland and Dean Dulin, both arriving at key moments to halt promising Wakeland drives.
The Wolverines still produced a pair of standout efforts in defeat. Grayson Myer stretched the field for 166 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Jayden Maples threw for 320 yards and three scores, continuing a strong run of passing production in recent weeks.
Still, the night belonged to Highland Park. The victory marked their twelfth straight and moved their record to 12 and 1. The Scots have been imposing throughout that streak, outscoring opponents by more than twenty seven points on average. Wakeland, which dropped to 11 and 2, saw its three game surge halted.
Next up, Highland Park gears up for a much anticipated showdown with Lone Star on Friday at 7 in the evening. With both offenses coming off huge yardage totals a week ago, another high octane clash could be waiting in the regional round.
