Tomball clinched a hard-fought victory in a thrilling overtime battle against Oak Ridge at Randall Reed Stadium, securing a 25-24 win in a pivotal Region II-6A Division II clash. Koby Fosher’s crucial handoff to Colby Dawson for the game-winning two-point conversion in overtime propelled Tomball to the regional semifinals for the third consecutive year.
With gutsy play-calling and determination, Tomball (8-4) overcame Oak Ridge’s fierce challenge. Their next test awaits against Cedar Hill, who emerged victorious against North Forney, setting the stage for an anticipated clash in the regional semifinals.
The game saw both teams excelling offensively, with each scoring in the first overtime. However, it was Tomball’s gamble on a two-point conversion that ultimately tilted the scales in their favor. Despite Oak Ridge’s touchdown by Larry Debose, Tomball responded emphatically with Fosher’s touchdown and the game-winning conversion.
“We executed and won the ballgame,” Dawson shared after the game. “It’s a crazy feeling, but we trusted our coaches and each other.”
The match witnessed Tomball taking an early lead, but Oak Ridge mounted a strong comeback, with James Scott and Justin Hayes contributing crucial touchdowns. However, Tomball’s resilience, exemplified by key plays from Charlie Von Der Meden and Jaxyn Faldyn, ensured a nail-biting finish.
Reflecting on the victory, Fosher emphasized the team’s execution and their preparedness for such critical moments. “We practiced this for weeks. We had a feeling we’d go for the two-point conversion and try to win it all,” he said, expressing the elation of the triumph.
For Tomball, this victory secures a remarkable third consecutive trip to the third round of the playoffs, underscoring their consistency and determination. Meanwhile, Oak Ridge aimed to advance to the regional semifinals for the first time since 2002, a goal that remained elusive despite their spirited performance.
Tomball’s coach, Dave Handal, praised the team’s focus on improvement and their ability to peak in November. “Our goal each year is to play our best football in November,” Handal said. “It’s a tribute to the kids who’ve embraced our culture and commitment to excellence.”
Game balls were awarded to standout performers like Carter Noyes, Koby Fosher, and Jaxyn Faldyn, whose contributions were vital in Tomball’s journey to the semifinals. Tomball now sets its sights on the upcoming clash against Cedar Hill at Waco ISD Stadium, anticipating another intense battle in the pursuit of continued success.
