Summer Creek Dominates Katy Jordan, Advances to Regional Finals
The Summer Creek Bulldogs delivered a commanding 54-20 victory over the Katy Jordan Warriors in the Class 6A Division II regional semifinals at NRG Stadium on November 29, 2024. Overcoming an early deficit, the Bulldogs rattled off 42 unanswered points, showcasing their offensive depth and defensive prowess. The win marks Summer Creek’s third trip to the regional finals in four years, cementing their reputation as playoff powerhouses.
A Game of Momentum
Katy Jordan struck first, with quarterback Dominic Cangolosi finding Landon Williams for a 9-yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. However, the Warriors’ early momentum quickly faded as Summer Creek’s offense and defense took control.
Quarterback Blake Thomas sparked the Bulldogs’ comeback with a 20-yard rushing touchdown to even the score in the second quarter. From there, Summer Creek piled on points, including a 46-yard scoring dash by Thomas and a fumble recovery touchdown by defensive standout Jashaud Johnson. By halftime, Summer Creek had transformed a narrow contest into a 28-7 lead.
The onslaught continued in the second half. Thomas added to his highlight reel with a 48-yard touchdown strike to Holden Miller, and running back Bryalin Causey punched in a 2-yard rushing score. While Katy Jordan’s Zion Jones managed to halt the Bulldogs’ scoring streak with a thrilling 90-yard kickoff return touchdown, it proved a mere blip in Summer Creek’s dominance.
The Bulldogs answered back with a field goal and a final touchdown from Aaron Alexander to cap their impressive performance. Even special teams got in on the action, as Caleb White returned a blocked PAT attempt for two points, adding to the Warriors’ woes.
Defensive Excellence
Summer Creek’s defense was instrumental in the victory, forcing multiple turnovers and shutting down Katy Jordan’s offense after their opening score. Key fourth-down stops and a relentless pass rush kept the Warriors from finding any rhythm.
Historic Season Ends for Katy Jordan
Despite the loss, Katy Jordan can take pride in an exceptional season. Finishing 11-2, the Warriors made significant strides in just their third year as a varsity program, establishing themselves as a rising force in Texas high school football.
What’s Next for Summer Creek
With the win, Summer Creek improves to 11-2 and looks ahead to a regional final showdown against either Houston Strake Jesuit or district rival Humble Kingwood. With a balanced attack and a defense firing on all cylinders, the Bulldogs are poised to make a deep playoff run.
Summer Creek’s ability to dominate in all phases of the game sends a clear message: they are contenders ready to leave their mark on the 2024 postseason.
