The top seed in Texas 6A barely survived its opening test. Allen entered the postseason carrying the weight of championship expectations, but the Eagles were forced to grind through four tense quarters before slipping past Lewisville 22 to 15 on Friday night. What should have been a comfortable first step turned into a reminder that playoff football rarely follows the script.
A Slow Build Turns Chaotic
Allen’s offense did not find its rhythm until the second quarter, when Jeremiah Daoud directed a marathon 16-play drive that finally cracked the Farmers’ defense. He fired an 11-yard strike to Josyah Johnson, then finished the next possession himself with a six-yard scoring run for a 14 to 0 lead.
Lewisville hung around, drilling a field goal before halftime and refusing to fade even as Allen controlled much of the early game.
Farmers Flip the Pressure
Momentum swung sharply after the break. Lewisville quarterback Derrick Martin hit Xavier Fleming for a short touchdown that cut the deficit to 14 to 9. Early in the fourth, the Farmers stunned the crowd when an interception set up Tre Williams for a 21-yard touchdown to Traejan Mueller. Suddenly, the one seed trailed 15 to 14 and the underdog had seized all the energy in the stadium.
A Championship-Level Answer
Allen delivered its best sequence of the night when it mattered most. The Eagles marched 77 yards in another 16-play possession, leaning heavily on the run game and converting pressure-packed downs.
Running back Lyndon Spriggs punched in a four-yard touchdown to reclaim the lead, and a pinpoint two-point throw from Caleb Smith to Carter Harris stretched it to 22 to 15 with just under four minutes to play.
Lewisville had one more chance, but Allen’s defense slammed the door. Senior edge rusher Josh Shaw ripped the ball free on a strip sack, and Trey Roberson jumped on the loose ball with a little more than a minute remaining to secure the win.
Eagles Survive and Advance
Despite the tense finish, the numbers painted a clear picture. Allen outgained Lewisville 383 to 240 and held the Farmers to a single net rushing yard. Daoud completed 25 of his 37 passes for 240 yards along with two total touchdowns. Spriggs added 70 on the ground, and Harris hauled in 122 receiving yards to anchor the passing attack.
Allen improves to 11 and 0 and moves on to the area round, where the Eagles will await the winner of Lake Highlands and South Grand Prairie. Lewisville’s season ends at 8 and 3, but the Farmers walk away knowing they pushed one of the state’s elite programs into deep water.
