3 out the last 4 years Spring Westfield & Duncanville have meet in regional semifinals or state semifinals, and the Panthers have won them all. Saturday it wasn’t no different In Duncanville 70-28 victory. Duncanville Quarterback Keelon Russell stated that this was the best first half his team has played all season. Duncanville scored on each of its first seven drives quickly building an 56-6 lead. Duncanville Defense was led by Two Texas Commits Colin Simmons and Alex January only giving up 14 points in the first half, and only allowing 28 points in total. Russell was nearly perfect in the first half going for 9 for 10 for 238 2 passing touchdowns before calling it a night at halftime. Russell set the tone of the game with a 42-yard touchdown, where Russell escaped the sack scrambled throwing a strike to ’25 LSU commit Dakorien Moore for the first score of the night. Westfield seemed to make it like would be a competitive fight just in two plays Westfield scored with a Taji Akins 38-yard touchdown run, but after that the Panthers poured it on with a 49-0 run.
Akins tried to keep the Mustangs into the with his 141 yards rushing in the first half, but Duncanville defense was firing on all pistons and suffocating. Westfield passing game was hit or miss all right. When The Westfield offense found success through the air KD Dotson-Walker intercepted pass and set up another Duncanville score. Westfield passing offense only finished with 66 yard and Taji Akins finished with 23 carries for 293 2 touchdowns on the ground. Duncanville stand out running back Caden Durham LSU commit had 206 yards 4 touchdowns in total (1 receiving 3 rushing) in the first half. But the Duncanville Defense headlined the game with creating 4 turnovers. With one of the fumbles created a defensive score with the combination of Keith Ford and Colin Simmons strip sack and Alex January recoving the fumble in the endzone.
This week in the State semifinals the Panthers will take on North Crowley at Mesquite Memorial Stadium at 3pm.
