PEARLAND – Summer Creek packed its bags, hit the road, and came home with something far more valuable than frequent flyer miles: a 37-32 opening-night win over Shadow Creek on Friday.
The Bulldogs didn’t just grab a victory—they extended their streak of success in this budding rivalry, making it three straight over the Sharks.
The difference-maker? A phase of the game that often lurks in the background—special teams. Summer Creek squeezed 11 points out of its kicking and return units, none bigger than the jolt provided by Benny Easter Jr. The senior electrified the stadium with a kickoff return touchdown that swung momentum firmly in the Bulldogs’ favor.
Shadow Creek had its moments, but every time the Sharks threatened to bite, Summer Creek found an answer. Big plays, timely stops, and that special teams edge helped the Bulldogs close the door late and secure the narrow road win.
Both programs won’t dwell too long on this one—there’s plenty still ahead. Summer Creek (1-0) turns around quickly for a Thursday clash with Lamar, holding a comfortable rankings edge (No. 24 vs. No. 87 in the MaxPreps Texas ratings). Shadow Creek gets its chance to rebound on Friday when it lines up against Clear Creek.
For now, though, Summer Creek gets the last word—and the last laugh—on opening weekend.
