Liberty Christian Dominates Parish Episcopal for State Title
Liberty Christian Warriors capped off an extraordinary season by overpowering the Parish Episcopal Panthers 45-24 to secure the TAPPS Division I state championship at Waco ISD Stadium on December 7, 2024. This victory marked the Warriors’ second consecutive state title and fifth in their program’s history.
The Warriors wasted no time establishing control. Quarterback Quinn Murphy opened the scoring with a 50-yard touchdown pass to Brady Janusek on their first drive. While Parish Episcopal briefly answered with a 23-yard rushing touchdown from Noah Wheeler, Liberty Christian responded emphatically. Running back Chase Garnett broke free for a 70-yard score, setting the tone for the Warriors’ unrelenting offense.
Murphy finished the game with 276 passing yards and four touchdowns, three of which went to Janusek. Meanwhile, Garnett exploited Parish’s defense, amassing 229 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. Liberty Christian’s defense stood tall, forcing two interceptions and limiting Parish Episcopal to just 7 points in the second half. The unit’s effort ensured Parish Episcopal’s late attempts, including a touchdown pass from their star quarterback to Beckham Smith, were not enough to threaten the Warriors’ lead.
Despite an admirable effort from senior quarterback Anderson, who threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns, the Panthers couldn’t keep up. The loss snapped their four-game winning streak and left them with a 9-5 record for the season.
Under head coach Jason Witten, Liberty Christian closed out a stellar 12-1 season with their 11th consecutive win. Known for their offensive firepower and a defense allowing just 13.5 points per game, the Warriors delivered another championship performance, cementing their legacy as a powerhouse program.
