As the 2024 high school football season kicks off in Texas, the 6A classification—home to the state’s largest schools—is loaded with talent and title contenders. Here’s a look at the top 12 teams heading into the season:

  1. #1 DeSoto
Coming off a state championship run, DeSoto is loaded with talent and starts the season as the top-ranked team in 6A. With elite athletes on both sides of the ball and championship experience, the Eagles are poised to defend their title and make another deep playoff push.
  2. #2 Duncanville
The reigning 6A Division I champions, Duncanville, have built a powerhouse program under Coach Reginald Samples. With a dominant defense and a physical running game, Duncanville is once again a top contender for the title and could challenge DeSoto for the top spot.
  3. #3 North Shore
Year in and year out, North Shore is one of the most feared teams in Texas. Known for their speed, athleticism, and playoff success, the Mustangs have another strong squad and are expected to be in the mix for another state championship.
  4. #4 North Crowley
North Crowley has risen quickly in the 6A ranks and enters the season with high expectations. Their combination of an explosive offense and a tough defense makes them a serious contender in one of the state’s toughest regions.
  5. #5 Cibolo Steele
Cibolo Steele has been a consistent powerhouse in recent years, and 2024 looks no different. Steele’s well-balanced team, with a strong defense and an efficient offense, makes them a threat to go deep in the playoffs.
  6. #6 Southlake Carroll
Southlake Carroll, a perennial contender, returns with high expectations. Known for their high-powered offense and the ability to develop top-tier quarterbacks, the Dragons are poised to be one of the best teams in the state once again.
  7. #7 Atascocita
Atascocita has emerged as a force in recent years and enters the season with a talented roster. Their explosive offense, led by dynamic playmakers, makes them one of the most dangerous teams in 6A.
  8. #8 Westlake
Westlake has been one of the most dominant programs in Texas over the past decade. Despite some key departures, the Chaparrals return with enough talent and depth to remain a top contender and challenge for another deep playoff run.
  9. #9 Lake Travis
Rivaling Westlake in talent and tradition, Lake Travis remains a threat in the 6A ranks. Known for their high-powered offenses and playoff pedigree, the Cavaliers are set to challenge their toughest opponents this season.
  10. #10 Summer Creek
Summer Creek is a rising program that cracked the top 12 with an impressive group of returning players. With a fast-paced offense and an aggressive defense, they are a team to watch as they aim for playoff success.
  11. #11 Shadow Creek
Shadow Creek is another team with a strong recent history of success. The Sharks, known for their physicality and athleticism, enter the season with high hopes of making a deep playoff run in 2024.
  12. #12 Katy
A perennial Texas powerhouse, Katy rounds out the preseason top 12. With a tradition of winning built on a strong running game and stout defense, Katy is expected to be a title contender once again despite stiff competition.

These 12 teams are set to battle it out on the field in what promises to be another thrilling season of Texas high school football. As always, the path to a state title in Class 6A will be tough, with these teams leading the charge.
