Regents Edges Kinkaid in 23-20 Thriller
Redemption was the theme Friday night as Regents flipped the script on Kinkaid. After falling to the Falcons in their previous matchup, the Knights held their ground this time, gutting out a 23-20 win to secure their second straight victory.
The Knights leaned on a mix of defense, special teams, and timely playmaking to get it done. Drew Novy and Isaiah Mills supplied the touchdowns, while kicker Benjamin Vaughn provided the steady foot that proved to be the difference. Vaughn was flawless, drilling three field goals and both extra points, single-handedly stacking up 11 of Regents’ 23 points.
On defense, the Knights made life miserable for Kinkaid’s rushing attack. Regents bottled up the ground game to just 1.9 yards per carry, with Novy leading the charge on that side of the ball. Meanwhile, the Knights’ offense found enough success on the ground to average 3.4 yards per attempt, keeping the chains moving when it mattered most.
For Kinkaid, the close loss stings—especially as it drops them to 0-2 on the young season. Regents, meanwhile, is off to a strong 2-0 start and showing they can win the tough ones.
Next week, the Knights will hit the road to face Antonian Prep at 7:00 p.m. Friday, while Kinkaid looks to regroup at home against St. Thomas Catholic.
