Duncanville Rolls Past The Woodlands, Advances to Regional Final
The Duncanville Panthers took another decisive step toward their third consecutive Class 6A Division I state championship with a commanding 42-20 victory over The Woodlands Highlanders on Saturday afternoon at Hutto Memorial Stadium. The win keeps Duncanville’s undefeated season alive at 12-0 and moves them one step closer to joining an elite group of just 20 UIL schools to win three consecutive state titles.
Offensive Firepower Sets the Tone
The Panthers wasted no time establishing their dominance, scoring on their opening drive with a 6-yard slant pass to Oregon commit Dakorien Moore. Moments later, Alabama-bound quarterback Keelon Russell connected with Moore again for another quick score, helping Duncanville jump to a 14-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Russell was unstoppable, completing an astonishing 84.6% of his passes (22-of-26) for 440 yards and six touchdowns. Moore was his primary target, racking up 12 receptions for 226 yards and four touchdowns. His performance, which included a stunning 60-yard touchdown in double coverage late in the game, earned him MVP honors. The senior wideout now boasts 67 catches for 1,258 yards and 18 touchdowns this season, with seven 100-yard games under his belt.
Russell’s supporting cast included Ayson Theus, who contributed 135 receiving yards and a touchdown, adding another layer to Duncanville’s relentless offensive attack.
The Woodlands’ Resilient Effort
The Highlanders fought valiantly, managing to trim Duncanville’s lead to 28-20 in the fourth quarter. However, the Panthers’ defense clamped down in the closing minutes, and Moore’s two late touchdowns sealed the victory. Despite the loss, The Woodlands finished an impressive season with an 11-2 record, including a ten-game winning streak on the road that ended with Saturday’s defeat.
Defense Delivers Under Pressure
Duncanville’s defense was a critical factor in the victory, racking up four sacks and consistently pressuring The Woodlands’ quarterback. Landon Barnes and Kj Ford accounted for all four sacks, while Jaylyn Manning anchored the unit with 15 tackles, one tackle for loss, and an interception. This defensive effort kept the Highlanders from mounting a full comeback.
Momentum Builds for Regional Final
With the win, Duncanville extended its home winning streak to 12 games, dating back to last season. Over this dominant stretch, the Panthers have averaged a staggering 35.4-point margin of victory.
Next up, Duncanville will face Cypress Bridgeland in the regional final on Saturday at Waco Midway Stadium. Bridgeland enters the matchup on a nine-game winning streak, but the Panthers are poised to put their playoff experience and firepower to the test as they continue their march toward another state title.
What’s Next
The regional final promises to be a fierce contest as Duncanville aims to cement its legacy as one of the most dominant programs in Texas high school football history. With Russell and Moore in peak form, and a defense that can rise to any occasion, the Panthers appear unstoppable on their quest for a historic three-peat.
