In a thrilling showdown that lived up to expectations, Aledo and Guyer collided in a high-octane high school football match, delivering an enthralling display that ended in a narrow 48-45 victory for Aledo (2-0). The game concluded dramatically as junior Cole Crawford sealed the win with a clutch 21-yard field goal as time expired. Fueling the Bearcats’ triumph was sophomore running back Raycine Guillory, who punched in an impressive four rushing touchdowns in a game where the lead shifted hands a staggering eight times.
The anticipation for this clash was palpable, with Aledo sitting at No. 6 in the SBLive Texas Power 25 rankings and Guyer close behind at No. 13 in the state.
Guillory’s final touchdown for Aledo was answered swiftly by Guyer, as Logan McLaughlin, boasting five passing touchdowns, connected with Corbin Glasco on a 64-yard touchdown strike. A successful two-point conversion to Josiah Martin leveled the score at a tense 45-45.
However, Guyer’s swift response left too much time on the clock for TCU commit Hauss Hejny and the Aledo offense. Capitalizing on the opportunity, they orchestrated a drive that positioned Crawford for the game-deciding field goal.
Aledo’s victorious start to the 2023 season was preceded by a 50-35 win over Parish Episcopal, a team ranked No. 10 in the SBLive Texas Power 25. Hejny’s 185 passing yards and two touchdowns, coupled with Guillory’s spectacular 198 rushing yards and three touchdowns, marked an auspicious beginning under the guidance of head coach Robby Jones.
Looking ahead, Aledo is geared up to host Northwest next week, seeking to build on their momentum, while Guyer will hit the road for a challenging matchup against Lancaster.
