In a highly anticipated clash between two top 10 Texas teams, Longview secured a hard-fought 13-7 victory against Forney at City Bank Stadium. The win elevated Longview to an improved 5-1 season record and a perfect 3-0 standing in District 7-5A Division I.
The game was characterized by stringent defenses that held both high-scoring offenses in check. Despite offensive limitations, Longview managed to penetrate the red zone early in the second quarter. Quarterback Andrew Tutt, who had a minimal passing game but was impactful on the ground, orchestrated a crucial drive culminating in a successful field goal by kicker John Monsivais, redeeming an earlier missed attempt. Running back Taylor Tatum’s four-yard touchdown run extended Longview’s lead to 10-0 before halftime.
Forney, known for its high-scoring offense averaging 58 points per game, found momentum later in the game. Quarterback Kyle Crawford connected with Imari Jehiel for an 11-yard touchdown pass, narrowing Longview’s lead to 10-7 by halftime.
Monsivais continued his solid kicking performance in the second half, adding another field goal to increase Longview’s lead to 13-7. However, a blocked field goal attempt by Monsivais allowed Forney an opportunity to close the gap. Although Forney’s offense struggled, a recovered muffed punt return gave them a chance near the end zone. Yet, Longview’s defense proved decisive, securing victory with a sack on a crucial fourth down in the game’s final moments.
This hard-fought win keeps Longview in a strong position in the district standings, tied with McKinney North at the top. Forney, despite the loss, remains a formidable team as they prepare for their upcoming home match against Lancaster.
