Southlake Carroll secured yet another playoff berth with a dominant 48-7 win over previously undefeated Northwest, maintaining their perfect season and proving once again why they are the top contender for the District 4-6A title. The Dragons overwhelmed the Texans both offensively and defensively, outgaining them 456 to 190 yards and putting the game out of reach by halftime.
Carroll wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Baylor commit Davis Penn punched in a 4-yard touchdown run just minutes into the first quarter. Quarterback Angelo Renda followed up with a 64-yard touchdown pass to TCU commit Brock Boyd, who was the star of the night, finishing with 135 yards and two touchdowns on just four catches.
Northwest’s only response came early in the second quarter when Kobey Wall scored on a two-yard direct snap, cutting the deficit to 14-7. However, that would be the Texans’ lone highlight, as the Dragons continued their onslaught. Boyd hauled in a 44-yard touchdown later in the second quarter, and Penn added his second score of the night on a 4-yard rush, sending Southlake Carroll into halftime with a commanding 28-7 lead.
The Dragons’ defense suffocated the Texans in the second half, allowing no further scoring. Renda added two more touchdowns—a 31-yard pass to Blake Gunter and a 10-yard quarterback keeper—before being sidelined late in the game. He finished the night with 239 passing yards, three touchdown passes, 63 rushing yards, and a rushing touchdown. Special teams also contributed, with Mateo Fodor blocking a punt that Christian Glenn returned for a touchdown to cap off the scoring.
The victory pushed Southlake Carroll’s record to 8-0, extending their four-game road winning streak and clinching a spot in the postseason. Meanwhile, the loss snapped Northwest’s six-game winning streak, dropping them to 6-1.
Southlake Carroll now looks to finish the regular season strong with games against Hurst L.D. Bell and Keller Central before starting the playoffs in mid-November. Northwest will aim to rebound next week when they face Byron Nelson.
