Allen’s Dominant Start: Gee’s 99-Yard Kickoff Return Ignites 61-0 Rout of Midland Legacy in Season Opener
Allen High School senior Donnell Gee wasted no time making his mark in the season opener, returning the game’s opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. This electrifying start set the tone for a commanding 61-0 victory over Midland Legacy in the inaugural Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer Football Classic on Friday night at Eagle Stadium.
The Eagles asserted their dominance in all phases of the game, racking up over 500 yards of total offense while holding the Rebels to just 209 yards. Senior quarterback Brady Bricker, threw for 265 yards and four touchdowns, leading Allen’s high-powered offense.
Midland Legacy had a productive drive but failed to convert on a fourth and short.
The Eagles quickly capitalized, driving down the field and extending their lead to 13-0 with 6:47 remaining in the first quarter. Senior running back Micah Ellis broke free for a 35-yard touchdown run, followed by another 25-yard score later in the quarter, putting Allen ahead 20-0. Ellis finished the night with 73 yards on just six carries.
Legacy mounted another offensive threat in the second quarter, reaching the Eagles’ 3-yard line, but once again failed to convert on fourth down.
Allen continued its offensive onslaught, adding two more touchdowns before halftime. Bricker connected with sophomore Lyndon Spriggs on a 69-yard touchdown pass, and then found senior Reid Nicholson for an 85-yard bomb with just over a minute left in the half. Nicholson led all receivers with 91 yards on four receptions, pushing the Eagles to a 34-0 halftime lead.
The second half was no different, with Allen finding the endzone. Bricker hit freshman Josyah Johnson for a 35-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter, making it 41-0. After forcing a Legacy fumble deep in their own territory, the Eagles scored again on a 6-yard pass from Bricker to Gee, extending the lead to 48-0 midway through the third quarter. Junior running back Jaden Hambric added to the tally with a 6-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter, leading all rushers with 122 yards on just seven carries.
Allen capped off the blowout late in the game when Gabe Lednick punched in a 2-yard rushing touchdown, sealing the Eagles’ 61-0 victory.
Allen’s impressive win sets the tone for what promises to be another strong season, as they look to build on their postseason success from last year.
