Waxahachie Keeps Rolling, Crushes Skyline 61-14
Five wins, five statements. Waxahachie stayed unbeaten Thursday, torching Skyline 61-14 in a game that was basically decided by the break, already sitting at 41-14 at halftime.
Jerry Meyer III was the engine behind it, slinging for 376 yards and four touchdowns while completing better than 71 percent of his passes. He’s been trending up in a big way too, averaging nearly 283 yards a game over his last seven outings compared to under 200 in the 11 games before that. Jordan Thompson-Woods gave him a go-to guy all night, hauling in 139 yards and three touchdowns.
The defense matched the offense stride for stride. Waxahachie piled up 5.5 sacks, and that’s not even out of the ordinary anymore, the Indians have hit at least 4.5 sacks in every single game this season.
Skyline simply couldn’t keep pace. The Raiders have now dropped 11 of their last 14 dating back to last year, falling to 2-3 on the season. Given Waxahachie sits at No. 4 in the state and Skyline all the way down at No. 723 in the MaxPreps rankings, the final score wasn’t exactly a shock. Devin Buckley and Tanard Counter-Simon still found the end zone for Skyline, keeping some fight in it until the final whistle.
Waxahachie moves to 5-0 and gets a nice breather before its next test, a showdown with North Crowley set for October 9 at 7 p.m.
