Smithson Valley Slams the Door, Blanks New Braunfels to Keep Playoff Run Alive
When the lights brightened and the tension rose on Friday night, Smithson Valley delivered one of its most complete performances of the year. The Rangers smothered New Braunfels from kickoff to final horn, cruising to a 24 to 0 shutout that showcased both power and precision on the biggest stage. It was their tenth win of the season decided by at least twenty four points, a testament to how dominant this group has become.
Shoquist Sets the Tone
Sophomore sensation Gunnar Shoquist turned the night into his own highlight reel. He powered through the Unicorns’ front for one hundred eighty four rushing yards, averaging more than nine yards every time he touched the ball. He wasn’t content to dominate just on the ground either, adding a receiving touchdown to complete a monster two score performance.
With Shoquist leading the charge, Smithson Valley racked up a season high two hundred fifteen rushing yards, controlling the tempo and wearing down the Unicorns with a relentless ground attack.
Defense Delivers the Knockout
While the offense churned out steady yardage, the Rangers’ defense put on a clinic. New Braunfels struggled from the opening drive, unable to crack a unit that has been lights out for nearly three months. Smithson Valley’s defense has now allowed fewer than eight points a game during its twelve game winning streak, a stretch fueled by discipline, physicality, and timely stops.
New Braunfels entered on a five game surge, but the Unicorns found no traction against a wall that refused to budge, dropping them to 11 and 3 on the year.
What’s Next
Smithson Valley improves to 13 and 1 and now turns its focus to a showdown with Port Arthur Memorial on Friday at seven o’clock. The Titans boast a stingy defense of their own, giving up fewer than fourteen points per contest. The Rangers’ offense will need another efficient outing if they want to push their season even deeper into December.
Right now, though, Smithson Valley looks like a team built for exactly these moments.
