In the midst of a defensive showdown, Cory Lowry’s clutch 20-yard field goal at the final second sealed the Lions’ consecutive state championship victory, closing out Thursday’s series of games in dramatic fashion.
The game’s narrative unfolded intensely. Franklin initially surged ahead with a 14-7 lead in the fourth quarter, sparked by Fragiel Owens’ pivotal 64-yard fumble return. However, the Eagles’ advantage was short-lived as they countered less than three minutes later, with Brett Tutter hauling in a 34-yard pass from Tyler Moody to even the score.
The pivotal moment arrived when Franklin mounted a crucial drive, advancing to the Eagles’ 3-yard line, retaining possession for nearly six minutes. It culminated in Lowry’s game-winning field goal, sealing the Lions’ fate as the holders of the state championship title for the second consecutive year.
Jayden Jackson, recognized as the Offensive Player of the Game, played a significant role in Franklin’s offensive prowess. Jackson’s stellar performance featured 148 yards gained on 24 carries, punctuated by a touchdown, contributing significantly to the Lions’ overall rushing total of 242 yards. His exceptional efforts stood out in a game dominated by defensive resilience.
